The Cisco Configuration Professional (CCP) is a useful tool for configuring and monitoring your Switch and Routers; it is the successor of Cisco security Device Manager (SDM), nevertheless I still think it is not so powerful like ASDM.
However if you try to run the CCP on Windows 8 you will end up with such nice user interface:
yes it is unfortunate but true; the half of the application would not displayed on the Desktop, at this point you think the bug is placed by the usual suspects like Java or Active X elements, so I did uninstalled and reinstall a new and an old version of java also I did activated Active X in IE but all that I have done could not fix that problem.
After a while I realized that not Java or Active X caused the error rather the new IE 10 is not able to visualize the CCP correctly because I can run CCP in Window7 and IE 9 without any problem. Unfortunately there is no way to run the CCP in the Firefox, so I had no option but start the CCP in the IE’s Compatibility Mode (Ger. Kompatibilitätsansicht). The Compatibility Mode sets the IE 10’s HTML visual representation Engine (Rendering-Engine) to a previous version of IE, since the CCP runs as local host I have to add the IP address of localhost [127.0.0.1] in the Compatibility Mode of IE.
So here is how you can fix the problem:
- Open IE 10
- enable menu bar (right click of address bar)
- go to Tools (Ger. Extra)
- choose Compatibility View (Ger. Kompatibilitätsansicht)
- add the 127.0.0.1 in the list
Next, allow outgoing connection to your java.exe in the Windows Firewall settings and apply it to all your NICs, finally run the CCP as an administrator and check if it works.
